A full suite of functions in a modular design with high capacity
SMS is still an effective medium to reach mobile subscribers due to the ubiquitous nature of the service and its widespread adoption. Messages can be sent and received without an internet connection and it remains a fundamental and globally accessible messaging medium. While SMS for personal messaging remains, corporates continue to leverage the application-to-person (A2P) channel which now dominates the volume of messages processed through SMSCs.

5G SMSC / SMSF
In 5G mobile networks, SMS (Short Message Service) continues to play a crucial role in communication, although it operates somewhat differently compared to previous generations. In 5G networks, SMS operates over IP (Internet Protocol) rather than traditional circuit-switched networks. This shift allows for more efficient use of network resources and enables faster delivery of messages.
3GPP Standard
In 5G networks, the 3GPP standard uses the Short Message Service Function (SMSF) to enable and deliver SMS services. The SMSF manages SMS activation and delivery. It interfaces with the UDM (Unified Data Management) to provision and activate SMS services for 5G subscribers.
TruTeq 5G SMSC with SMSF Module
TruTeq’s SMSC can be enhanced with our SMSF module in order to meet 5G SMS requirements.
Moving to 5G SMS
Operators have many migration paths to choose from when it comes to the evolution of their 5G core. In many scenarios, it is important to support both Legacy MAP messaging and Diameter interfaces.
- An SMSC vendor that offers flexibility and a variety of options when it comes to legacy MAP, SMS over IP and Diameter interfaces will ensure all future messaging requirements can be met.

SMS Firewall
SMS as a bearer is increasingly being used as a vector for fraud, unauthorised parties bypassing standard interconnections and sending ill-intentioned SMS traffic to unsuspecting MNO customers and IoT devices. Studies have revealed that significant revenue is lost to SMS faking and spoofing, Denial of Service (DoS) and spamming. If this problem is left unaddressed, an MNO with can easily incur significant annual costs in asymmetrical inter-operator SMS termination charges and customer service costs related to dealing with disgruntled customers.
SMS fraud cases as defined by GSMA (PRD IR.71):
Anti-spamming
Block unsolicited SMS messages to a subscriber
Anti-flooding
Block large volumes of messages to one or more destinations
Anti-faking
Stop messages where the addresses of the messages are manipulated
Anti-spoofing
Stop messages illegally using the SMS-C of the client operator by manipulating the A-number
Architecture
The close integration of the TruTeq SMS Firewall with our SMS-C suite of solutions ensures a highly scalable solution.
The TruTeq SMS firewall provides
Robust control through source address validation, whitelisting / blacklisting of GTs and numbers, and rate control. It features content filtering and blocking, works across networks (SMPP, GSM/3G, SIP/LTE), supports multi-language (UCS2), and offers flexible rule tuning. For A2P, it enables source address replacement based on keywords, and a web GUI allows easy management of blocked messages.

Bulk Messaging
System
SMS and MMS are highly effective ways to communicate with large numbers of people in a near real-time manner. Millions of subscribers can be reached with targeted messages in a very short time.
The TruTeq Bulk Messaging Module (BMS) provides an easy-to-use graphical interface for customers who need bulk messaging services but who don’t have the messaging volumes or technical resources to connect directly to the MNO’s infrastructure.
message delivery can be scheduled for specific times of the day to ensure that messages are not viewed as intrusive or unwanted. Furthermore, broadcast messages are still one of the most cost-effective ways to communicate with targeted audiences.
The TruTeq BMS can be deployed together with the TruRoute SMSC / MMSC or as a stand-alone, connecting to 3rd party systems via a standards-based interface. The TruTeq BMS resides in the application layer of the TruTeq product stack.
Dynamic Rate Limiting
When used in conjunction with a TruTeq SMS-C, MMS-C, First Time Delivery SMS-C or virtual SMS-C, the Bulk SMS application has a configuration feature that will rate limit batches dynamically to maximize throughput to the licensed limit.
The TruTeq BMS features include
Web GUI as well as FTP, email, and DB integration
Delivery scheduling
Priority management
Billing options by bearer, prepaid/ postpaid, or on-net / off-net
Message templates
Selectable source numbers
Multi-level user hierarchy, address book and quota management
Auto licence utilisation
Ability to capture customer responses against mobile numbers
Reporting and statistics
Alarms and monitoring

vSMSC
In an environment where an MNO wants to expose multiple SMSCs to external application and content providers, or where the existing SMSCs do not have the capacity for large numbers of application accounts, the virtual SMSC can solve the problem in a very cost-effective way. The solution also caters to SMS aggregators who need to integrate to multiple MNOs in a country or abroad. The vSMSC can manage various protocols as specified by the MNOs and distribute traffic based on originating or destination address routing.
Rating and Billing
The vSMSC supports Diameter Ro for real-time billing integration to an OCS for AO or AT services. These interfaces can also be optimised using unit reservation to ensure the OCS is not overloaded.
Architecture
The Truteq SMS solution offers flexible and modular hardware and software architectures that will scale with capacity and growth requirements.

Missed Call Notice
While the usage of classic voicemail as historically offered by fixed- and mobile operators has been decreasing over the years, the need remains for mobile operators to notify users of missed calls while the mobile phone was switched off or out of coverage.
Cost effective primary service
With more than 99% (and rising) of calls diverted to voicemail ending in slam-down, it is the smart move to opt for a cost-effective missed call notice service. While lacking advanced customisation- and message deposit functionality, it satisfies the root requirement.
Simple integration
The MCN service can be triggered in a variety of ways, from simple call forward over SIP, to API calls or incorporating the TruTeq Packet Inspection Framework.
There is no need for expensive audio channel infrastructure, as the inherent prompt capabilities on the core network elements is leveraged. In addition, multi-language support is enabled in cases where subscribers are already provisioned accordingly.
Highly scalable
The service can be deployed as an add-on to the SMSC as well as stand-alone.
High traffic volumes can be served on minimal infrastructure. Given the subscription-less nature of the service, high traffic volumes can be served on minimal infrastructure.
Subscriber centric
The user has the ability to opt-out of the service via a variety of self-service channels
The A-Party can be notified once the MCN SMS has been delivered
The MCN can also be forwarded to OTT channels such as WhatsApp and Telegram
Advertisements can be inserted and optionally enriched via the Visual Notification Centre
