TruTeq Operations Management

Centralised configuration management is essential for maintaining the stability, security, and efficiency of business-critical systems. By providing a single source of truth for all configurations, it ensures consistency across diverse environments, from development to production, minimizing errors and preventing unauthorized changes.

This streamlined approach not only reduces the risk of costly downtime and security vulnerabilities, but also simplifies troubleshooting and enables rapid deployment of updates. Ultimately, centralised configuration management empowers operations teams to proactively manage their infrastructure, allowing them to focus on strategic initiatives rather than constantly reacting to misconfigurations and inconsistencies.

Security & Access Control

Role-based access control which is typically integrated to the – customers’ own authentication server to ensure organisational security policies are maintained.

Configuration & Fault Management

Besides configuration management, the TruTeq GUI allows management of the alarms that are included with all TruTeq systems. Alarms can also be integrated towards the customer’s NMS.

Version Control

TruTeq utilises Gitea as the standard to manage configuration version control. A history of changes is maintained to allow roll-back to previous configurations. Viewing change history and management of versions is executed via the Gitea web front-end and/or CLI. For more detailed tracking and audting requirements see Audit & Compliance

Ease of Use

The TruTeq configuration management GUI eases the implementation of common configuration changes and simplifies the management of complex changes. Training times are reduced and a common approach means that all TruTeq products are managed in a similar way.

TruTeq Statistics & Reports

For business-critical systems, robust statistics and reporting are indispensable for informed decision making and continuous improvement. By providing near real-time and historical insights into system performance, resource utilisation, and user behaviour, the TruTeq statistics and reporting tools enable organisations to proactively identify bottlenecks, anticipate potential issues, and optimise operations.

TruTeq Approach

TruTeq’s approach to statistics and reporting is to insert data into a suitable database cluster, which is securely accessible via front-end tools for analysis and report generation.

Our systems include rich event logs and extensive counters, ensuring that all required information is available to make operational and business decisions. Unique requirements can easily be catered to with the addition of log- or counter customisations.

Front End

TruTeq’s solution is designed to be front-end agnostic. A 3rd-party GUI, such as Grafana, can be provided as part of the deployment, or, alternatively, a customer’s existing front end may be integrated via provided APIs.

Advanced Counters & Statistics

The GUI allows interaction with the extensive counters and statistics that are standard with all TruTeq systems. These can be further customised and tailored to the exact requirements of each customer.

Unified Operations Platform

TruTeq Search - Advanced Search Tools

Once an operations team’s responsibility extends to multiple systems over different sites, the ability to search large volumes of data logs and records using a central tool becomes critical for efficient management.
A centralised approach eliminates data silos, providing a unified view of events across the entire infrastructure. It vastly improves troubleshooting efficiency by allowing engineers to quickly correlate events from various sources, identify root causes, and resolve issues faster.

TruTeq Approach

TruTeq’s approach to centralised search is to ensure that relevant data from logs, call detail records and other events are inserted into a suitable database, which is securely accessible via front-end search tools.

TruTeq supports OpenSearch or Elasticsearch for this purpose, but other options may be considered if customers have an existing environment in place.

End-to-End Search

TruTeq deployments are typically high-availability and geo-redundant. This means that traffic could enter or leave via multitude nodes, and the full path of a single event through the environment could take many routes. TruTeq’s Advanced Search tools use unique reference identifiers to trace the entire course of events of a transaction over multiple nodes.

Customer Care Interface

A simplified tracing interface is available, suitable for call centre staff or similar.

Unified Operations Platform

TruTeq Trace Packet Inspector

There are times where even deeper insights are required than those already provided by the extensive logging and reporting available in TruTeq’s other UOP tools. Low-level, packet-based traces may be required to resolve issues experienced by customers, partners, or other 3rd-party systems in the network.

TruTeq has developed a packet inspection framework to allow easy access to such low-level traces, without the need for expensive 3rd-party hardware or software solutions.

TruTeq Approach

TruTeq’s packet inspection framework (PIF) allows authorised staff to carry out detailed inspections of packet-based traffic events. These events are harvested as they flow between identified network elements, allowing low-level protocol information to be displayed in human readable format via the graphical user interface.

Supported Event Types

TruTeq’s PIF allows detailed tracing of various protocols, for example,

  • Diameter messages
  • SMPP and other streaming protocols
  • SIGTRAN messages (e.g, MAP, CAP)
  • TCP/IP events
  • API interactions

TruTeq Audit & Compliance Monitoring

Audit and compliance monitoring solutions serve as a critical safeguard against legal repercussions or financial penalties by ensuring adherence to a myriad of regulatory standards, industry best practices, and internal policies.

Beyond simply meeting legal obligations, these solutions enable vulnerability identification within the IT infrastructure, helping to mitigate risks, investigate possible data breaches, and strengthen the overall security posture. By providing transparent, documented evidence of compliance, they also build trust with stakeholders, enhance business continuity, and ultimately contribute to a more efficient and secure operational environment.

TruTeq Approach

The TruTeq Audit and Compliance Monitoring solution is typically deployed to a separate and secured server / virtual machine, and access to the server is limited using role-based access rules from the customer’s Active Directory configuration. All relevant syslog events are securely transmitted to the audit and compliance server and can be kept in a database for long term storage, reporting, and investigations.

User Interface

Besides configuration management, the TruTeq GUI allows for the management of the alarms that are included with all TruTeq systems. Alarms can also be integrated towards the customers NMS.

Activity Tracking

Both command line events and configuration changes made via the Audited Servers’ GUI are captured so that all activities on sensitive or business critical systems are auditable. Access to the Audit Server itself supports role-based access, including a Read Only profile.

TruTeq Mediate

Billing mediation is a crucial process, especially for businesses with usage-based services such as in telecommunications. TruTeq’s automated reporting server facilitates billing mediation by collecting the vast amounts of raw usage data generated by diverse sources and normalising it into a consistent format. The data is then enriched and aggregated, which can be used for report generation or integrated for automated billing processes.

This allows for accurate application of pricing rules and discounts on customer- or group plans, ensuring that every service consumed is correctly accounted for and billed. The importance of reliable mediation lies in its ability to prevent revenue leakage, minimize disputes, and enhance customer satisfaction through transparent and accurate invoicing.

TruTeq Approach

Using the same framework as those for the operational tools available on the TruTeq Unified Operations Platform, data is collected into a database cluster, processed and enriched as required and automatically passed on to the necessary BSS systems in the customer’s network.

Uses

Typical use cases for this solution are

  • Automated and regular billing of messaging service providers. Events are collated and sent to a traditional billing platform / OCS using direct integration via Diameter or other protocols.

  • Reverse billing of services:  Messaging events that are zero-rated for the user may be collated and billed to a group- or corporate account.
