Service Platforms | Multiplexers and Load Balancers
Carrier Grade MUX and SLB Solutions to Both Simplify and Improve Your Network Architecture
TruTeq’s software multiplexers intelligently combine and manage data streams, enabling efficient and effective use of resources in various applications. Typically, multiplexers combine multiple input signals onto a single shared output path.
TruTeq’s Server Load Balancer distributes incoming requests across multiple backend destinations to optimize performance, reliability, and scalability.
Easier & Faster Service Provision
Customers, 3rd Parties, Internal Services and Partners don’t need to deal with complexity. Connect to one point and the MUX and SLB do the rest.
Service Protection
Protect important services by rate limiting incoming events and giving the ability to easily remove back-end nodes that are in fault state or that require maintenance.
Full Monitoring and Traceability
Monitoring and logs are included to ensure end-to-end traceability is maintained.

Why Choose TruTeq’s MUX and SLB?
The complexity of the latest generation networks ramps up very rapidly, especially when legacy portions exist that need to continue functioning reliably. TruTeq’s software Multiplexers and Server Load Balancers give customers more deployment options and reduce complexity, thereby also reducing initial and ongoing operational costs.
Scalable Architecture
Quickly and easily add additional client-side or back-end resources without rearchitecting the whole environment
Great Value
No 3rd party licensing or appliances needed. The MUX and SLB solutions are TruTeq’s own software
Lower Cost of Ownership
Optimised architecture means reduced software licensing and/or hardware resources needed for the same reliability and performance
Multiplexers and Load Balancers
USSD Multiplexer
Network Initiated USSD (NI USSD) or USSD Push is an important and extensively used USSD feature.
It allows the mobile network operator (or authorised applications) to send a message directly to a user’s phone screen, initiating a USSD session without the user dialling a code first. This useful capability does “however” bring challenges to MNOs and Aggregators. The TruTeq USSD MUX reduces these complexities. The USSD MUX also aggregates Mobile Originating (MO) USSD traffic towards USSD Application Clients.
Stability
The DEA masks internal network elements by normalising all diameter exchange information and screening external connection points from internal Diameter nodes. No internal element will communicate directly with an external element.
Reduced USSD Interface Connections
A DEA is essential for services such as LTE roaming. Connections via hubs or directly to foreign / partner networks all pass via the Edge Agent to protect your home network and to simplify architecture and integration efforts.
Service Availability
A faulty USSD Gateway or a USSD Gateway requiring down time for maintenance can easily be taken out of the load-share pool. The service remains available to all end users and maintenance activities are transparent to USSD Application Clients.
Redundancy
Without the MUX, USSD application servers would have to maintain connections to all USSD gateways; now, they only need to connect to the active MUX. For capacity expansion, the MUX also allows the MNO to add additional USSD gateways without any changes to the application connectivity requirements.
Session Aware
USSD is session based. The USSD MUX ensures that session continuity is maintained across all nodes for uninterrupted service.
Multiplexers and Load Balancers
SMS Multiplexer
To take advantage of the full capacity and redundancy of deployed SMS infrastructure, it is necessary to connect to multiple SMSC nodes and load-share between those nodes.
The SMS Multiplexer (SMS MUX) load balances the Application Originating SMS messages across the active SMSC nodes. The SMS MUX also aggregates Mobile Originating (MO) SMS traffic towards SMPP application interfaces and similar.
Shared Provisioning
Shared SMS application provisioning with the SMSC. No additional provisioning steps are introduced when adding accounts or modifying existing details.
Stability
If an SMS application becomes unstable, it can deplete the resources on a SMSC. The SMS MUX load balances application originating sessions across available SMSC nodes and also rate limits the traffic to protect the system from errant applications.
Monitoring and Traceability
Equipped with a fully integrated monitoring system that can be used to monitor aspects such as inbound and outbound traffic rates and server availability. A unique message reference number is shared between the TruTeq SMSC and TruTeq SMS MUX for improved traceability.
Reduced SMS Interface Connections
SMS applications need only connect to the active MUX per site. For capacity expansion, the MUX also allows the MNO to add additional SMSCs without any changes to the application connectivity requirements.
Multipart SMS Aware
The SMS MUX ensures that all parts of a multipart message are routed via the same SMSC.
Multiplexers and Load Balancers
Server Load Balancer
The TruTeq Server Load Balancer (SLB) is a carrier grade software-based load balancer used to balance IP traffic between multiple servers.
Redundancy and Service Availability
The SLB will monitor the availability of each server. The moment one of the servers becomes unavailable, the SLB will take it out of the distribution pool and only direct traffic to the remaining servers. The SLB itself can be paired with a second SLB to form a highly redundant configuration.
Connection Distribution
Several options are available for load distribution, for example, Round-Robin, Least Recently Used, and Persistent Round-Robin. Persistent Round-Robin will allocate connections in a round-robin fashion, but successive connections from the same source IP will be directed to the same destination server).
High Performance
The TruTeq SLB is trusted by customers to carry mission critical services at very high throughput rates.
Monitoring
Comes equipped with a fully integrated monitoring system that can be used to monitor important parameters. Also supports SNMP queries and SNMP traps.

Diameter – Multiplexer
Deployed to assist with connection management and traffic distribution
Efficient use of the provisioned Diameter capacity
The Diameter MUX manages incoming Diameter connections and will establish its own binds to the configured primary nodes. The incoming traffic for new sessions is distributed evenly across the available primary nodes while updates to open sessions are routed to the primary node managing that session. This allows for efficient use of the provisioned Diameter capacity.
Message Copy Capability
The MUX can also send a copy of Diameter events to an alternate Diameter node. The copy can include all events or a filtered subset. This is a useful capability for troubleshooting, QA, and load-testing activities.
